Its physical characteristics

The British Shorthair can range from medium to large in size. Females weigh an average of three to four kilos while males are more around five to eight kilos. It is recognizable thanks to a massive and powerful body but also a short and thick tail.

This breed of cat is distinguished by the curves of each part of the body, particularities that are not found in other breeds of cats. With very muscular limbs and a large frame, the British Shorthair appears to be a robust cat.

Its tail is characterized by its thickness along its entire length.

The neckline is quite short which often suggests that this type of cat does not have one.

Its head is often considered apple-shaped because it has very round lines.

The cheeks are indeed well filled while his nose is short but with particular nostrils. They must be curved and open for the cat to be identified as part of that breed.

His eyes, always wide open, also have a very round shape and are at a fairly large distance from each other.  the other. This physical peculiarity should bring out the fact that the nose is curved.

The British Shorthair always has an eye color that matches the color of its coat.

The ears are wide at the base and end in a nice rounded shape. For balance in the face, they are spaced the same way as the eyes.

The dress of these cats is what will allow them to be classified among the British Shorthair. It must be short and dense with a very tight coat. The hair separates from the body only when the cat turns its head. There are seventeen coat shades for this breed of cat, which is exceptional. Among all the possibilities, the British Shorthair can present a unicolor or striped coat with several possible models.

Not to be confused: the British Shorthair is of course characterized by its roundness. Its head is massive and fits in a circle, unlike that of the Chartreux  which is pear-shaped, with a much more elongated profile.
